We went over to Mum and Dorothys today and looked through some of the documents that Mum has from my grandad. This includes some photos of him as a boy with someone we presume is his father, I will go through them later and see if I can identify my great grandad. This is a picture of the actual lifeboat in action, my great grandfather was secretary of the Whitby Lifeboat institution for 44 years. He is mentioned fairly often in newspaper cuttings and minutes of meetings so we found him fairly easily online. Grandad left lots of photos but very few with names on - its always a problem - we have lots of photos ourselves upstairs in the attic - they should either be labelled or thrown away. We never get round to it - maybe this will spur me on!
