Today we walked from Whitby to Robin Hoods Bay. Its about 6 miles and as you can imagine very exposed so we set off at 8am as it was hot! It is a beautiful walk and a wonderful coast line, but we were very glad that we left early! Robin Hoods Bay itself is a tiny village at the bottom of a very steep road. We stopped at a monument they have there - it remembered the efforts of the people of Whitby and Robins Hood Bay in an amazing rescue. A boat was in trouble but the seas were so rough that the Robins Hood Bay lifeboat couldnt go out, the Whitby lifeboat also couldnt go round the coast for the rescue. So they took the Whitby lifeboat over the cliffs to Robins Hood Bay, 19 horses and 200 men managed this enormous feat in 2 hours through deep snow - and the rescue was successful - they should make a film out of that story! Back to Whitby and we ate in the famous Magpie Cafe - a fantastic meal!
