I listened to the the latest Wildlife Trust talk https://youtu.be/eHSjfpr3Mzc Landscape recovery and how it is needed for nature recovery. Good input from the speakers. A big question from the audience was what can we do? A lot of people care about nature but don’t have much space. Isabella Tree from the Knepp estate is writing a book about that question. Should be interesting when it comes out, she is a good writer. One of the speakers was Wouter Helmer who talked about https://rewilding.org/european-experiments-in-rewilding-oostvaardersplassen/ a really interesting rewilding area in the Netherlands that was a catalyst for the Knepp estate. Controversial because when animals died which they do naturally through old age or because there isnt enough food, the public git upset. In the end they had to agree a limit to the animals on the area so that there weren’t too many dying. The public want to see a natural looking space but don’t understand that there is a ‘circle of life’ to quote Disney!!
Interesting discussion and comments from those attending.
