Today we went out into Steadings field to do a UK Pollinator Monitoring Scheme survey. Myself and Nathan took a quadrant on an ivy hedge and counted. It proved what I said before - really difficult - is it a bee? is it a wasp? something else? We struggled but got 5 wasps, 6 bees and 2 small flies in a 10 minute period.
Some teams got nothing - October is not a great time to count pollinators.
The team near us found the bee pictured - an ashy mining bee. Firstly its very pretty so thats amazing. But secondly they should not be seen at this time of year - global warming is really affecting us.
Went home and had a great pizza night with Robin, Chris and Anna (Chris's girlfriend) . First time that Anna has met us and I think it went OK - hopefully she thought the same!
