All about birds

This morning there were two long tailed tits on the bird feeder - we stood right next to them! I could not have been more excited! They are probably the cutest birds and really didnt care that we were there. It does show that putting out the bird food at this time of year does really attract the wildlife into the garden.

Our animal handling lecture today was also on birds. I learnt a few things.

1. I will do all I can to avoid handling birds - the handler who did the demonstration at the university had to use a chicken - because the quail had an 'episode' ie he was too violent to be able to demonstrate with!! Also you need a license. Also they quite often die because they get very stressed.

2. You can use an Ikea bag to restrain swans - see picture - how amazing is that. Again not something that I am going to practice but yet another use for an Ikea bag!
