Saturday 25th June 2022 Day 35

530 start and off in the dark. It was very misty this morning so not many photos And difficult to see even with a torch in the woods.

We walked passed this cafe really early while it was closed, a memory from when I was here before.

Then we came across another cafe at 655 just opening up. Had a lovely coffee and cake there and watched as the other pilgrims started to catch up and pass us.

These students must have left the hostel at about 540 when it was still dark, not sure that would be allowed in the uk. While it’s a bit annoying having so many teenagers making a noise I also think it’s a fantastic school trip. Great for the kids.

We saw some great bridges today of all sorts of styles.

Early in the day I discovered that I had booked a dormitory for tonight. A quick bit of research and I found a small hotel a few km further on in Arzua. It was a difficult day, quite a lot of roads to walk on and our longest day so far. Then it started to rain, all a bit hard and depressing. But we came across a lovely restaurant at about 1215 and decided to stop for lunch to regain our strength. Great idea, great food!

Then off up the hill to find our hotel in Arzua. This is what greeted us.

It was a depressing looking place which was obviously closed on the main road into Arzua. I called the number and got hold of an old Spanish guy who didn’t speak English. We had some sort of conversation and he put the phone down. What to do now? We were just wondering when a car pulled up and out he jumped. He took us round the back of the hotel to the open door. After a bit of hand signals and shouting, with me trying to grasp any word I could understand, he showed us to our room and we u set stood that we would pay later when a lady turned up. Room with a mountain view?

The hotel was actually nice inside and the room was great but overall a very spooky Place. Completely closed but laid out as if lots of people would be there. We locked the door in case! Quick shower and then off to find the launderette. This was in front of the hotel in case you thought it might be better from the front!

Estella have done great street art in some of the towns, this is probably the best one we saw.

I helped some Americans in the launderette as I am now an expert and it was all in Spanish. Then off to explore the town. That didn’t take long so we had dinner and went back to the hotel to pay. Overall a town to skip If there is a next time.
