The public holiday tomorrow has meant that everyone changed plans. Today we went over (with Chris) to Charlotte and Elliotts home to go to the Battle of Britain bunker. It is 10 minutes walk from their place and Charlotte wanted to go before they leave Uxbridge! We had the 1130 tour - and it was just the 4 of us and 2 tour guides! The tour lasts about an hour and is well worth it - they have the rooms set up exactly as it would have been on a date in September 1940. It was amazing to see how all the communications worked. I learnt what a barrage balloon was use for (protecting ground targets - the steel cables below it meant that enemy aircraft approach was more difficult). Then into Uxbridge for a Sunday lunch!
We had decided to go back to Brighton with Chris and stay at his place but half way back down the motorway we had a call from mum. Dorothy has been rushed into hospital. Quick debate and we decided to drop Chris as Gatwick station to make his own way back and go back to Wokingham so that we were closer.
