We are up early and try to leave as quietly as we can. That’s the problem with sharing a dormitory with so many people. We make sure that everything is in order the night before, but the lights are off in the dorm and it’s difficult to see. Have we picked everything up? Go back and check just in case. Not sure we are really that quiet, but we aren’t the only ones so we don’t feel that bad! It’s quiet to start the day which is nice and we soon reach the 100km marker. It feels like we have been walking for so long Italy feels like ages ago! But it’s not that bad, we have done 150km already!!
It’s only 17km today, so a short day but we have been warned that there is a steep hill with an even steeper down slope. It’s a lovely day and we walk through the wood to the top of the hill. Soon we are there! It’s no where near as bad as the book said. We do find this wonderful bench with the best view for a stop and a snack then off down the hill!!
A quick stop to look at a goat and be a pilgrim and we are here in Redondela! It is only 11am and we feel we could have walked another couple of hours, but we are booked so we stay here. The hostel opens at 12 and we find our baggage there! It is so freeing without baggage, we are like mountain goats, running up and down the hills! Well maybe not, but it is definitely much easier! This is the monastery with a really beautiful chapel attached. I saw the congregation earlier and the service would have been packed which is nice
The hostel is great, with bunks in compartments with a curtain. We get a one bunk compartment which is great, like having our own very tiny room!! We noticed on the way in that all the restaurants are selling octopus. It’s obviously a big thing here as they are having a festival next week!! The town is known as the town of two bridges, we found one, I expect we will find the other one tomorrow.
The street art in Spain is amazing. I do like this rat!! In the evening we go to an Irish bar. Don’t judge us! It’s Sunday in Spain and before 8pm. There is t much open!! My croquettes are average but Robin has paella made with cut spaghetti instead of rice. It’s called Fideua and is delicious. I looked it up and it is quicker to cook than paella, we should try it!! Then off to our little curtained compartment!
