Tuesday 6th May 2025

Most people in the dormitory got up early so we didn’t worry too much about the noise! It was a lovely walk through the old town out of Pontevedra and very quickly into small country lanes. We stopped at the church of Santa Maria de Alba. It was closed which most often seems to be the case but we found a bench/statue that Robin liked. Then onwards through lanes and woodland.

It was a beautiful walk today, some of the best countryside. Lots of water and woods. The walls are all covered in moss and greenery, it all looks so cool.

We have seen so many wash houses on the way. I think I will do a montage at the end!! A walk through a park reveals done wooden sculptures, all Camino related, I think I like the boots best! We are always looking at the vineyards as Chris works in one in Sussex, very different from here. We have seen lots of vines, all grown for house or village consumption. We haven’t seen any commercial sized vineyards at all which is surprising. Chris says that effectively one vine should give you enough grapes for one bottle of wine. Very small production here!

The advantage of not having backpacks means that we can take a detour when we want. Do we took the slight detour to Fervenzas do Barosa. Waterfalls in the national park. They were beautiful and only about 600m off the track. Not many pilgrims made the effort though which I can understand. With a backpack every extra metre had to be worthwhile!! We walked a little further and found a great place for lunch. I had salad!! I have to admit fruit and vegetables have not been in abundant supply. We try and eat an orange every day!! Anyway the salad was great!!

Then on to our last dormitory in Tivo. It is a lovely Alburgue in a very small village. We haven’t seen any action with three other people. They don’t really speak to us but we get along fine. They have a washing machine do we sorted that out first then sat in their lovely garden. What a treat and it was so restful! Loved it!!
