Geroge and I went over to Frith wood after lectures today - luckily it wasnt raining! It is amazing when you look at something for a second time how much more you see of it. In the middle of the wood - off the paths -there are the remains of what would have been chalk quarries - they look great!! There was also a lot of ash dieback that I had not really noticed before. Great field survey and we learnt a lot - now we need to work out how to turn it into a management plan. In fact the volunteers and GWT are already doing a great job there - and beech hangars are very typical of the Cotswolds - so dont touch it too much! A beech hanger is a wood on the side of a hill - typically on steep slopes.
We were supposed to get the feedback on our first assignment today - but at the last moment we were told that it was not ready yet - hopefully we will get it early next week (which is disappointing).
