We are walking to Holkham Hall today to actually go in the hall! The walk over is lovely, although the sun has disappeared and there is a cold wind about! The deer was very near the path and not bothered by us at all! I got my Merlin app out but we didn’t find any very interesting birds.

The hall is Palladian built in the 18th century, and really very uninspiring from the outside. Inside is another thing altogether! It was not what I was expecting and it was magnificent. The family still live in the house and some of the rooms are still used for special occasions. I would love to be a visitor and sleep in the guest wing!! It has an amazing library which is connected to the British library apparently. Only for researchers though, not for you and me! There are volunteers in every room and they are well worth chatting to, they have so much information! Overall well worth a visit.

We walked over to the walled garden and realised that they have a small vineyard in there. Now that Chris works at Kinsbrook we are always interested in vineyards!! I check with Chris about the grape varieties and he is not very complimentary. They are very disease resistant but don’t necesssrily make good wine. But when I find a bottle in the shop called walled garden I have to buy it anyway!!

Later in the evening we go back in to Wells for dinner. When we leave the sun has come out and the light is fantastic. What a beautiful place.
