Saturday14th August 2021

It turns out the quickest way from Ross on Wye to Wokingham is through Newent where I lived from age about 12 to 20. Robin had never been and I haven't been back for many years so we dropped in. The picture on the left is where we lived, my bedroom was middle window on the left. The house is behind the market square so quite difficult to photograph. In a way the town has changed quite a bit, new housing, new supermarket in the middle of town, everything looked a bit tidier and more up market - which is probably a good thing. Other parts hadn't changed at all, the SPAR opposite our house, the Tudor Fish and Chip Shop, the village hall where we went to the local disco, the many pubs that I remember, the junction where I knocked a boy off his bike (I had only recently passed my test and he was OK luckily), the church where I got married the first time round!! Interesting to go back.

I don’t remember you running down anyone. Was I ever told or have I just forgotten? I remember Anne’s brush with the law. I won that one.

Replying to

The boy was OK but his parents called the police - I had to go round to his house to apologise (which I should have done anyway!). Really frightened me and taught me a lesson. If it hadn't been for the policeman I might have forgotten it.
