Pilgrimage Day 2

Sunday 20th August 2023

Up early (bit like camping!) then off for a hearty breakfast at the Singing Kettle (highly recommend). We picked up a few more pilgrims and then off about 1030. Today we were effectively walking along the Cuckmere river down to the coast. It was hotter than yesterday, we had some shade in the morning but in the afternoon it was a bit of a slog back in the heat. Overall I would say the walk was good - I love the scenery, but organised walking is not for us. There was too much singing (dont ask) and waiting for people (who seemed to have all the time in the world!). We got back to Alfriston at about 5pm - they set off to the church for one more song - and we legged it out of sight to the pub! A good experience not to be repeated!!
