Thursday 23rd June 2022 Day 33
We left Sarria a bit later than usual, after 6am, and could tell the difference with the number of pilgrims! It had threatened rain but the day started fine but misty. We found a lovely place for coffee after about 7km and agreed if we came again we would stay here rather than Sarria.

It was a lovely walk with lots of sights that I remembered from Galicia.Stone walkways to avoid getting our feet wet!

Cool paths with stone walls on both sides with lots of ferns.

We had nearly run out of cash with quite a way to go and I needed the toilet! I was just contemplating a wild wee when we came across a lively donativo. We gave him all our money, I went to the toilet and we took a jam pancake and an egg. Everyone was a winner!!

Not long after it really decided to rain. It was ponchos on and head down for the next hour then we came to the hill overlooking Portomarin. Two arrows, one to go the traditional way and one to take the road. Well obviously we went traditional snd what a journey that was! There was no warning that we needed to go vertically down a rock gulley. We have never been so careful! It was much longer than this but we couldn’t take too many photos!!

But we got there and were rewarded with the view of the bridge to Portomarin and the remains of earlier river settlements there.

It was still raining so we took cover and had a beer! There were two other highlights of the day. We reached the 100km marker. Who would think that 700km would go so quickly and we are nearly at the end.

And actually even more exciting we saw a hoopoe!! You do occasionally see them in the UK but not often and they look very exotic! We watched him for a king time wandering round the garden.

And a great Camino shell in bottle tops to cheer us up in the rain!

I remember the sunken roads and the hoopoes!
