San Martin del Camino

Tuesday 14th June 2023 Day 24

We walked out of Leon this morning. Out of the hotel at 540 out earliest yet I think. We were hoping that some of the landmarks were lit up but no luck. The yellow arrow of the Camino was sorely missing and we spent a lot of time playing hide and seek and asking early rising locals who were all really helpful. Obviously used to confused pilgrims!! The walk today was by the side of the N120 the whole way. We stopped for coffee at 8km as usual and then set off again. Very soon we came to another small town with a three stork nest church Bingo!! First one we have seen.

We didn’t stop which was a mistake! It was another 12km, 2.5 hours walking, no shade and no place to stop. Eventually we came to a truck stop and literally fell in. I took my shoes off while Robin got us drinks, very Camino!!

Then in for the last 6km and we got to our hostel. It is on the main road!

And was advertised as having a garden and swimming pool! Not quite finished but they are working hard on it!

We are grateful for a place to rest, wash ourselves and our clothes and put our sandals on!

Later in the day we trudged down the hot street to the only shop in town. Supposed to open at 4 but actually 410 so we sat outside with our Robert Dyas bag and waited!!
