Due to bad weather and interviews this is the first time that I have got back to volunteering for the South Downs. There were eight of us and we took the landrover over to Steyning Rifle Range to cut back and burn a load of scrub. Luckily its not a rifle range now, it was used in the second world war apparently - but we did find these metal structures which look like they were used for the target practice! Someone is looking after it all as they were in quite good condition. The task itself was hard work! A steep hill and very thick inpenetrable hawthorn scrub made it exteremly difficult. We cut until about 1pm then lit a fire and burnt the lot! My muscles still hurt from Mondays class and this did not help! A lovely set of people including Ian who I know from Lewes (he is one of Robins Mens Shed friends - small word still!). Got back home about 4pm then off at 6pm for the Morris Road craft club round at Sarahs this evening - lovely chat and craft and back home at 8 to admire hte fire that Robin had lit in the wood burner - I am having go tommorrow!
