Wednesday 20th January 2021

Its been really busy this week. Got my assignment in but also starting semester 2.

We started 3 new courses. The first one was on soil - I listened to the online lecture twice and read up on it. I swear I didnt understand the words she was saying - it was like a foreign language that she thought I knew! Work to be done there. We had an online test at the lecture today - I didnt do too badly - and learnt a lot about how important soil is - it seems obvious but we dont think about it - over 90% of our food comes from the soil. And the shocking fact that soil depletion is happening 10 to 100 times faster than it is generated. Take a look at this Ted talk from Tony Jupiter - What has Nature ever done for us? What has nature ever done for us? Tony Juniper at TEDxExeter - YouTube

Really interesting information.

I also knuckled down to the Hengistbury Head assignment which we need to send in by the end of January. I have to admit that I thought about giving up on it - there is so much else to do at the moment - but I got on with it and we had a good call today - I hope we can use this image as part of it - connecting with nature is important for all of us and I think this photo is a really good image to show that. StepOut is our theme - how to get 11 - 18 year olds out in nature more - bit of a challenge!
