Traps and beetles

Today we went back to the refugia and pitfall traps from last Wednesday. Nothing under the refugia - not really surprising- its a bit late in the year and also too cold and wet to see any snakes or reptiles - all we got was a couple of slugs.

Much more success with the pitfall traps - mostly beetles, snails, worms etc. We found this in the picture - not sure what it is so I need to find out! We also found an unopened can of beer - an unexpected bonus but it was John Smiths and even the on campus students didnt want it!

I have two volunteer opportunities at last - most places are not taking any new volunteers due to Covid. This Saturday I will be out with the Holt Copse volunteers - its 5 minutes walk from home so great to be helping out locally. I also have a day with the Cotswold Water Park on Sunday 18th October.

I went swimming again today - definitely getting colder but there were still about 6 other people there with me. The white magpie is evading me - I see him every time but cant get a good picture - I will get him one day to show you!
