We are in training for our Surrey Three Peaks walk so today we went somewhere a bit different (did about 23km altogether). Over to Crowthorne golf course and then into Swinley Forest and through to Martins Heron (took the train back at that point!). Swinley Forest is a huge area and most of it is plantation - it is great to walk off the roads but there is not much diversity in the forest. However it is a great area for bikes - they have set up a huge number of trails, they are really well sign posted and lots of people enjoying them. If I lived closer I would be tempted to get a bike and join the fun! We also found Ceasar's camp - an Iron Age fort in the forest - it is 2400 years old and has a 1 mile wall earth bank around it - we love a wall walk so went all the way round! Its one of the largest in southern England and we didnt know about it until today. Lockdown has made us learn a lot about our local area!

It would be great to fly a drone over the hill fort. It's very hard to get a feel for the scale of it from the wall, which is really just the top of an Embankment.
But I was impressed. Alright, it's not like visiting a jungle temple in Cambodia. But this is almost on our doorstep!
