Zara and I did a great job today clearing up the barn where a lot of the equipment is used. More pieces of tangled rope than you could possibly ever use!
It was a beautiful day so later on I went out in my garden to pick grass so that I could practice my grass identification - as the garden has not been mowed since last September there were lots of different types - I successfully identified, barley, wheat, perennial rye grass and that was about it - the other 10 I collected were a mystery! But in the middle of this I found a pyramidal orchid - in my garden!! Amazing!
So I walked over to the campus to see if there was anything interesting there - this year they have funds for a project called Wild Campus Cirencester. This aims to connect up RAU, Cirencester College and the Deer Park School so there are more wildlife corridors. They also managed to persuade the groundsmen to leave parts of the campus unmown (I think they find that very hard!). The picture is the result in the playing fields - the picture really doesn't do it justice - its really beautiful. I learnt afterwards that there are Bee orchids over in Beldisloe, I will look for them next time the sun comes out!
